Nick recently graduated in 2018 from the Music Department of School of The Arts with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) Performance & Pedagogy. He is an active member of local Malaysian band Sada Borneo which drew international attention when they wowed the judges at Asia’s Got Talent in 2015. Nick is currently busy with production and song writing for Sada Borneo and performing with the band for events.
Mohd Azhar Abu Bakar or better known as Azmeer by his industry peers is an award-winning song writer, producer and composer. He graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) Performance & Pedagogy from the Music Department. Azmeer is known for his work with artists such as Misha Omar, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and many other prolific singers and won local and international awards for his work.
Azharudin Ramli or better known as Arja Lee graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Hon) Acting & Directing and is no stranger to the local Malaysian entertainment scene. A person with many talents, Arja is actively pursuing a career in the entertainment industry while running his new dance academy called Arja Arts Academy. Through his studies at USM, Arja is also a firm believer that as an artist it is important to strike a balance between having a foundation through education and also possess practical experience.
Rosnan Abdul Rahman, a graduate in architecture from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), was willing to leave a promising career with a decent salary for his love for Mak Yong. He became involved in this field while studying at USM and is now well-known as Pak Yong, portraying the roles of the King and main characters in Mak Yong performances not only within the country but also overseas. These roles are usually played by women and rarely by men. He said his interest in Mak Yong began when he became close to fellow art students at USM in 1995, before joining the university's arts group.
Aida Redza trained in ballet, modern dance and traditional Malay dance from a young age. She graduated with a BFA from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, USA and completed graduate studies at Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, the Netherlands. After returning to Malaysia, she became the founding member of staff of the dance programme at Akademi Seni Kebangsaan and worked in projects with Istana Budaya, the Ministry of National Culture and Arts, the Actor's Studio, Kuala Lumpur, and Five Arts Centre. She was also a founding member of Shakti Dances.
Muhammad Aiman studied in School of The Arts from 2011 - 2014 and is now currently a freelance 3D artist working on various projects around the world. His freelance work includes making 3D assets for indie games and enterprise projects. In the past, he has also worked at companies such as Hasbro and EA Sports as a character artist. At Hasbro, he has worked on various toy brands such as Power Rangers, Transformers, and Star Wars to name a few. While At EA, he was involved in the development of the EA Sports title, where he was responsible for the production of 3D character assets, and in-game engine integration. “Be humble in your curiousity. I think as creative beings we find it hard to accept how something so subjective as art or creativity can be rejected or graded poorly. Don't think of it as a stumbling block but view it as a supplement to your norm.”
Amirul is best known for his The Heart of Mathematics, a series of eight sets of threaded circles set to ancient cultural symbols. His exploration into this began with a Facebook post where one of his lecturers mentioned how a spiral pattern could be drawn mouton a person’s hand using the lines of their palms. Pretty soon, he gan to see spirals everywhere.
“I like to explore, express and experiment with any kind of material, medium, subject, technique and issues on day-to-day living. I challenge myself to combine together become a new composition of work that is then reflected back to the audience for their interpretation.”
Tan Hui Koon graduated in the year 2007 as a Fine Art major and has has merged her art-making practice into the area of curatorial matters as well. Hui Koon has led the Education Division, creating educational programs, proposing public engagement and audience building strategies. She has curated a number of exhibitions, among them the Aliran Semasa Young Emerging Artists Media Art Exhibition in 2013. She has co-curated Immaterial Frontiers 2.0, a South East Asia Media Art Exhibition in 2014 and also created a community project called Gerakan Seni (Art On The Move) in 2015 with the role of Artistic Director. In 2017, she was responsible in curating 101 Malaysian Women Art Show.
