Dr Pravina Manoharan is currently the Chairperson of the Music Department, School of The Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Classically trained on the piano, her passion in music is fuelled by a desire to share and experience music in all its different colours with her students. She is actively involved in research work in the area of Ethnomusicology, Popular Music, Diaspora studies, issues of Identity and teaching English through Music and Arts. Her most recent project was the production of Jungle Book The Musical, a musical theatre production with Rohingya refugee children. The children sang an acted entirely in English, a medium they had just learnt in the span of one year. Currently she is working on an industry grant to develop an Ed Tech platform on Arts Education assisted by AI technology to assist EFL and ESL postgraduate and undergraduate students with their studies.
