• Research on Contemporary Western Classical Music by Malaysian, Indonesian and Thai Composers that are influenced by Islamic Aesthetics, in collaboration with Dr. Patricia Matusky, Adjunct Professor, Grand Valley State University, NMC University Center Campus, Traverse City, Michigan , USA.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH & MUSICAL COMPOSITIONS
Maria Zaitun, a chamber opera based on Fatimah Busu’s short novel “Perkembalian Seorang Maria Zaitun” (The Return of a Maria Zaitun) for 9 voices, 6 violins, 3 violas, 3 violoncellos, 2 double basses, harp, piano 1, piano2/celesta, xylophone, marimba, vibraphone/glockenspiel, and percussions [2004]. Drawing upon research on the Malay language, the aesthetics of Southeast Asian as well as Western music, and new developments on melody, rhythm and harmony.
